MIXTAPES

playlists for wine drinking

Mark & Erik have been hard at work curating playlists for your every mood. From Nigerian Disco to early 90’s Emo, there’s something for everyone. Don’t worry, we’ve also provided wine pairings.

VDF: RAP FRANçAIS (1991-2024)

From Montreal to the Congo, we did a deep dive into French language rap. This mixtape features legends like Suprême NTM and MC Solaar, as well as unsung heroes like Liza Monnet and Doc Gynéco, and young guns like Shay and Soraï.

Pairing suggestions include Laurent Saillard’s Un Été Partagé, Thibaud Capellaro’s Terra Syrah, Domaine Richaud’s Terre de Gallets, Domaine de la Garreliere’s Milliard d’Étoiles, Domaine des Marnes Blanches’ Savignin Les Molates, and Le Grappin’s Fleurie-Poncié.

LOW TANNIN (1983-1999)

We want ostentatious romance; we want your unpolished pick-up lines; we want to dance recklessly with our crushes; we want our teachers to say ‘that’s too close’. This nostalgic playlist captures our infatuated teenage years growing up in the 80s and 90s. It features artists like Monica, Sade, Babyface, and Luther Vandross.

Pairing suggestions include Escala Humana’s Bonarda, Domaine Breton’s Nuits d’Ivresse, Domaine Richaud’s Cairanne Blanc, Peter Wetzer’s Weiß, Kindeli’s Verano, and Les Lunes’ Cosmic Blend.

off-dry (1963-1982)

This playlist was inspired by a party; we drank too much, spoke too loudly, and loved our friends with abandon. It features dozens of our favourite funk, soul, and disco artists including The Gap Band, Jackie Shane, and Orlando Julius. You’re going to need a bigger dance floor.

Pairing suggestions include Broc Cellars’ Amore Rosso, Kindeli’s Tinto, Laurent Saillard’s Un Été Partagé, Louis-Antoine Luyt’s Mismo Pais, Maloof’s Temperance Hill Pinot Gris, Milan Nestarec’s Gin Tonic, Paradise Grapevine’s Afterglow, and Rigour & Whimsy’s Multiverse.

FROTH (2013-2020)

The tips of waves, bubble bath topping, and overflowing coupes. This playlist was inspired by Spring sunshine and rain showers, both of which are best with a bottle of fizzy wine. We’ve focused primarily on Canadian artists (Marlaena Moore, Samantha Savage Smith, Jom Comyn) but have sprinkled in a couple of international favourites as well.

Pairing suggestions include Champagne Tarlants Cuvée Zéro, Lightning Rock’s Canyonview Blanc de Noir, Broc Cellars’ Chenin Blanc Pet-Nat, La Garrelière’s Milliard d’Étoiles, and A Sunday In August’s Pinot Blanc Pet-Nat.

SAD BOYS CLUB (1996-1999)

Inspired by our favourite emo and emo-adjacent bands from the late nineties, this playlist highlights classics like Built to Spill, Elliott Smith, and Pavement, dotted with lesser known artists like The Clean, Polvo, and Clinic.

Pairing suggestions include Gut Oggau’s Theodora, Strekov 1075’s Fred #5, Dirty & Rowdy’s MSG, and Intellego’s Kedungu.

TRAVEL BAN (1962-2016)

With international travel cancelled for the foreseeable future, we’ve opted for sonic escapism. These artists hail from countries we’re desperate to visit, with a particular emphasis on Africa and South America. Although the genres are diverse, there’s a funk and dance undercurrent that runs through the playlist, compelling you to move!

Pairing suggestions include Louis-Antoine Luyt’s Pipeño, Craven’s Firs Syrah, or Maloof’s No Clos Radio Gewurztraminer.

UNDISGORGED (2012-2020)

Here’s a crunchy lo-fi power-pop playlist to help you muscle through the turbulent times. We’ve focused primarily on Canadian musicians like Wares, Sunglaciers, and Feel Alright, but mixed in some international favourites as well.

Pairing suggestions include Gut Oggau’s Atanasius, Franz Weninger’s Hochacker Blaufrankisch in Magnum, and Meinklang’s Foam Somlo. Really, any explosive pet-nat will do the trick.

MAD BOYS CLUB (1992-1999)

Mark compiled a special playlist for his 40th birthday featuring tracks from his punk-rock heyday. Fuelled by cheap Ontario beers, he’d perform at the occasional battle-of-the-bands, attempting to channel the high-octane angst of his favourite acts. Highlights include Lagwagon, Tilt, and Down By Law. Can someone point me towards the mosh-pit?

Pairing suggestions include Broc Cellars’ Kou Kou, Intellego’s Halagasha, Silwervis’ Smiley, and Ryan Stirm’s Sonoma Syrah.

washed out, washed up

Maia’s first playlist for Juice is jam-packed with apathetic bangers and reverb-drenched dreamboats. Lay on your floor and cure your perpetual hangover with turbid rosés and tracks from Faye Webster, Suki Waterhouse, Devonté Hynes, and Steve Lacy.

Pairing suggestions include Gut Oggau’s Winifred Rosé, Milan Nestarec’s Forks & Knives Rosé, Creek & Gully’s Pink Lady, Franz Weninger’s Rozsa Petsovits, and Else’s Pinot Gris.
